Blood and biochemistry Processed at Askabide

Complete blood count with 5-part differential

Counts red cells, white cells and platelets, with automated classification of neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils and basophils.

Venous blood in an EDTA tube.
Analytical phase in minutes; often same day after quality checks and validation.

General biochemistry by dry chemistry

A panel of substances and enzymes providing information on metabolism, kidneys, liver, proteins and mineral balance, processed with dry-chemistry reagents when available.

Venous blood; usually serum or plasma depending on the test.
Many routine determinations may be validated the same day; this is confirmed according to panel, timing and controls.

Glucose and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c)

Assess current blood glucose and, for HbA1c, average glucose exposure over roughly the previous two to three months.

Venous or capillary blood depending on the validated test and procedure.
Usually same day when available and quality controls are acceptable.

Lipid profile

Measures total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides to assess cardiovascular risk together with age, blood pressure, diabetes, smoking and other factors.

Venous blood; serum or plasma depending on method.
Usually same day when processed on site.

Kidney function

Combines creatinine, urea, estimated glomerular filtration rate and, when indicated, electrolytes and urine albumin/protein.

Venous blood; some panels also require a spot or 24-hour urine sample.
Many determinations same day; 24-hour urine or referred tests may take longer.

Liver profile

Groups enzymes and proteins that provide clues about hepatocellular injury, cholestasis and synthetic function without replacing clinical or imaging assessment.

Venous blood, usually serum.
Usually same day when determinations are processed on site.

Blood and biochemistry Combined pathway

Iron and anaemia study

Combines CBC, ferritin, iron, transferrin or saturation and, when indicated, vitamin B12 and folate to investigate anaemia.

Venous blood; more than one tube may be required.
CBC and part of the chemistry may be same day; ferritin, B12 or folate depend on reagents and pathway.

C-reactive protein (CRP)

A non-specific marker of inflammation that may rise with infection, injury, surgery or inflammatory disease.

Venous blood; serum, plasma or whole blood depending on the validated reagent.
Rapid analytical phase; often same day after validation.

Blood and biochemistry Combined pathway

Coagulation studies

Measures coagulation times and parameters such as PT/INR and aPTT, according to the request. It may form part of pre-operative or anticoagulant monitoring.

Venous blood in a correctly filled citrate tube.
Timing depends on the requested test and active pathway; coagulation samples have strict pre-analytical requirements.
